About Chesed Center Ashkelon
Building community. Strengthening souls. Supporting lives.
Our History of Compassion
The story of the Chesed Center Ashkelon begins in 1979, with the founding of Chesed Center Ashkelon. It was established by Rabbi Liberman, who was sent to the city as part of a national neighborhood rehabilitation initiative under the guidance of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. From the very start, the foundation was laid for a multifaceted mission of chesed, education, and spiritual support – touching the lives of thousands in the city.
As a city on the periphery, Ashkelon faces serious economic and social challenges. Many local families require support, guidance, and opportunity from early childhood through adulthood. What began as a small yet impactful initiative soon expanded, becoming a central pillar of the community.
Today, the Chesed Center Ashkelon stands as the social, educational, and communal backbone of the city. Behind its broad range of programs is a dedicated professional and rabbinic team, led by Rabbi Sharon Ohayon, who guides the center with deep faith, sensitivity, and a clear vision. Rabbi Ohayon personally oversees all projects with autonomy and attention to every need that arises from the community.
